The Arabic Alphabet Series: Funoon Studios’ Beginnings
The Arabic Alphabet series was born from my love for charming vintage Arabic flashcards and iconic imagery from the Arab world. With bright, bold colours and playful designs, I set out to create meaningful art for children’s spaces—something more personal than generic posters. What started as a niche for families in the region soon became a favourite for adults from all over the world, bridging cultures and introducing the beauty of the Middle East and North Africa.
I was highly inspired by the book "Arabic Alphabets, from the series “Before the School” Illustrated by: Mohieddine el-Labbad. These illustrations had so much charm and authenticity which are contrast to a lot of the generically illustrated arabic alphabet resources today You can find the rest of this book as well as other beautifully illustrated arabic books on Khazanet.org.
For the past four years, I’ve been proud to offer these prints as a way to celebrate language, art, and heritage. But as Funoon Studios has grown, so has the series itself. It’s no longer just about children’s wall art—it’s become a visually exciting bridge between different cultures.
One of the highlights of having my art out there has been seeing it beautifully displayed in people’s homes, bringing joy and cultural stories into their spaces.
Now, after four wonderful years, Funoon Studios is evolving. The shop is temporarily closed and I am currently working on an exciting new product for this beloved series as well as new collections of art and merchandise insha’Allah.
I can’t wait to share what’s coming next!
